About

Building useful software and publications through calm design, careful engineering and plenty of patience

Founder, builder and editor.

I'm Saliem Talash, a founder based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I build websites, AI tools and publications, and I care about craft, clarity and the small details that make a page feel finished, even when nobody would notice them missing.

I work where product, design and engineering meet. I think in systems but obsess over details: the kind of work that takes a few more passes than seems reasonable because it deserves them, and that is checked again before it ships.

I run four projects. UOVA is an AI website builder and creative studio, ZOME is an AI growth platform, ZELR is a publication on tools, work and the city that I edit, and WONE is the fourth. Each one has its own live site, linked further down the page, and the Journal on this site is where I write about the craft behind all of them, one practical article at a time.

Currently

Right now I am building and editing across UOVA, ZOME, ZELR and WONE from Toronto, and writing the Journal on this site. The articles cover motion, type, performance, search and the practical side of running small products on the web. This site is a working example of those ideas: static HTML first, one small script, English and French.

What this site is built with

  • Graphics

    • three.js
    • WebGL 2
    • GLSL shaders
  • Motion

    • GSAP
    • ScrollTrigger
    • Lenis
  • Build

    • Vite
    • Node.js
    • A static page generator
  • Type

    • Instrument Serif
    • Red Hat Display
  • Pages

    • HTML first
    • CSS
    • Vanilla JavaScript
  • Checks

    • Lighthouse
    • Keyboard and screen reader passes
  • Content

    • Markdown
    • Structured data (JSON-LD)
    • An RSS feed

In practice

The pages are static HTML with one small script on top for the motion you see here. They read in full without JavaScript, respect reduced motion and load their fonts from this site. Everything is available in English and French. The reasoning behind these choices is written up in the Journal.

What I run

Approach

I work in short passes: listen, shape, build, refine. Each pass ends with something real that can be looked at, so decisions are made on the thing itself and not on a description of it.

Purpose

I want what I make to be genuinely useful and quietly well made: clear about what it is, fast to load, and pleasant to come back to on any device.

What to expect

Plain language and early sight of the work. If something can be better I will say so, and if it cannot be done well I will say that too. Replies come through the routes listed on the contact page.
